Aitkin stays perfect with win over PL

PEQUOT LAKES - Kristy Hoge collected two doubles and four other players recorded two hits for the Aitkin Gobblers in Monday's 17-7 win over Pequot Lakes.

Gobblers' starting pitcher Sara Hoge struck out three and helped herself by collecting a double and knocking in two runs. Lauren Landrus added three RBIs, while Emily Mehr and Kelsey Klucas knocked in two a piece for the Gobblers.

Brooke Serfling went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs for the Patriots.

PILLAGER - Ally Hunstad struck out nine in 6 1/3 innings and the Pillager Huskies scored 11 runs on just five hits to beat Upsala 11-6 Monday.

Jazmin Massie had a double and Kaylie Hanson went 2-4 with an RBI for the Huskies.

Staples-Motley 20, Melrose 4

MELROSE - Rachael Hoemberg continues to hit a hot bat as she went 3-for-3 with four runs, three RBIs and a double in the Staples-Motley Cardinals 20-4 victory over Melrose Monday.

Heather Zetah hit a triple and Ashley Miles went 3-4 with four RBIs, two runs and two double.

Abby Edin went six innings allowing five hits, two earned runs and one walk. She struck out two for the win.

CASS LAKE - Katie Wangberg finished 3-for-4 with an inside-the-park home run and four RBIs to help the Pine River-Backus Tigers knock off the Cass Lake-Bena Panthers 13-1 Monday in Northwoods Conference action.

Nikki Tulenchik finished 2-4 with a double and Erin Kish was 2-3 with an RBI.

Becky Walker allowed one hit and three walks and struck out two in three innings for the win.

Erin Johnson pitched the final two innings. She struck out three.

Lauren Hayes drove in Ashley Stich and Kayla Stich to account for the Pioneers' runs.
