20 years ago (1989)

State Sen. Don Samuelson of Brainerd reacted angrily to what he called an apparent attempt to further reduce services at the Brainerd Regional Human Services Center. Rep. Paul Ogren of Aitkin is chief author of the reorganization bill.

30 years ago (1979)

Brainerd School District secretaries voted by a more than 2 to 1 margin to join a union. In a related matter no date has been set for a re-vote to see which of two rival groups will represent Brainerd teachers.

40 years ago (1969)

Mills Motors, victorious in the 26-team District BPAA bowling tournament at LaGuyal Lanes, lost the regional crown 3,085 to 3,083 to Bragg's Pickups. Bob Elg paced Bragg's with a 578 and Ken Johnson led Mills with a 599.

60 years ago (1949)

All bus travel in and out of Brainerd by Northland Greyhound Bus Lines came to a halt at 10:43 last night when the last bus left for Aitkin. Mrs. Signa Sjodin, local depot manager, said an eight-state labor strike would shut down the usual 14 bus trips per day here.

80 years ago (1929)

The Princess Candies bowling team took three straight games last night at Block's Alleys when the Braino Beverage team failed to show up.

100 years ago (1909)

The Park Improvement Association has commenced the work of improving Gregory Park. The council, at its last meeting gave permission for the removal of defective cottonwood trees and hopes to see a fine fountain installed.
