Andrew Bramer, Verndale, and Justin Huether, Baxter, were student leaders at the inaugural Bemidji State University Building Bonds and Breaking Barriers Through Adventure Day April 4 at the Gillett Recreation Center at Bemidji State University. The event is a one-day program of adventure activities focused on creating community, strengthening values, solving problems and building trust. About 100 sixth-grade students from the Bemidji area participated. Bramer is a junior and Huether is a senior. Both are majoring in physical education.
Lacey McCulley, Brainerd, was named winner of the Elmer J. Johnson Scholarship Contest, sponsored by the Brainerd Trades and Labor Assembly. She will receive a $500 award to attend Central Lakes College in Brainerd this fall where she will be enrolled in the nursing program. Each year the Brainerd Trades and Labor Assembly offers a $500 scholarship to high school seniors in Aitkin, Cass and Crow Wing counties who plan to attend Central Lakes College.
The Brainerd American Legion offered scholarships to Lacey McCulley, Annah Rueger and Brandon Julius, all seniors at Brainerd High School, to attend Central Lakes College for fall semester. McCulley has been awarded the $1,500 Broman Memorial Scholarship, Rueger the $500 Frank Vadnais Memorial Scholarship and Julius the $500 Legion Scholarship Achievement Award.

Daniel Borash, Little Falls, and Joe Mitchell, Crosby, participated in the ninth annual Bemidji State University Student Scholarship and Achievement Conference. Borash, a senior majoring in environmental studies, presented a poster at the conference. Mitchell, a senior majoring in marketing communication, presented an exhibit at the conference.
Jordan Moss, Aitkin, was accepted for membership into the Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges program. Who's Who is a program created to give recognition to students with outstanding academic achievement and leadership. Moss is a junior majoring in aquatic biology.
Brandon Julius
Maxwell Kuehn, son of Carter and Martha Kuehn, Brainerd, was named to the winter quarter dean's list at the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences at Northwestern University.
