When lakes area residents and visitors think of intriguing local art, their thoughts may turn to the Paul Bunyan Scenic Byway.
Over the past six years, since the byway was officially designated, area artist Tom Ottoson of Crosslake has been creating representations of inspirational and memory-stirring sites along the 54-mile byway route.
The latest collection, entitled "Seasons of the Byway," was completed over the winter. The four pieces highlight the seasons at byway sites from Crosslake to the Rollie Johnson Natural and Recreational Area at Big Island on Whitefish Lake.
Once again, Ottoson has captured the unique balance between the underlying emotion and overt beauty of each location. His skillful use of light imparts a freshness and authenticity to his oil paintings that sets them apart from so many others.
Sales of previous Ottoson paintings and prints over the years have helped provide funding for projects and operations of the Paul Bunyan Scenic Byway Association. Again, the artist will donate a portion of the proceeds of the sales of "Seasons of the Byway" back to the association.
To arrange a viewing of "Seasons of the Byway" or for more information, contact the Paul Bunyan Scenic Byway Association at firstname.lastname@example.org or call the organization1s secretary at (218) 692-1205 and ask for Carol.
