PEQUOT LAKES -- Senior citizens in Pequot Lakes will go back to school May 6.
That's when Pequot Lakes Community Education and the Pequot Lakes High School and Middle School student councils will sponsor a day for grandparents.
Registration is necessary. Cost is $5 per grandparent. Send a written registration and $5 fee to: Pequot Lakes Community Education, P.O. Box 368, Pequot Lakes, MN 56472.
11:15 a.m. -- Registration in the theater hallway by the high school office.
11:30 a.m. -- Welcome Program in the school auditorium.
12:30 p.m. -- Lunch in the elementary school cafeteria.
1:30 p.m. -- Dress rehearsal of the spring play, "Emma."
After the play -- Dessert reception in the elementary cafeteria.
Senior citizens will eat a meal in the school cafeteria with high school and middle school students, watch the dress rehearsal for the spring high school play "Emma," and participate in a play reception with "Emma" actors and cast. There also will be time to interact with high school and middle school students, and meet school teachers and staff.
Parking is available near the high school entrance by the theater door. Handicapped parking is located by the school building. Except for a few stairs in the auditorium, all events will be held on the ground floor level of the school. Student council students will meet, greet and escort senior citizens.
"Our student council is proud and excited to be able to help organize a Senior Citizen Day at School," said Stephanie Olson, high school Student Council president. "We want to increase the interaction between generations. A large part of leadership is community building and to do so, all groups should be involved together. This will be a fun day."
"We hope this event, Senior Citizen Day at School, becomes a yearly tradition for our grandparents," said Richard Mark, Community Education director. "For many senior citizens, they do not get the opportunity to be in our school. This is a good day to meet some students and staff, as well to enjoy a school lunch and the high school play."
