Baxter's Miller, Brainerd's Hup reign
RUN FOR THE LAKES MARATHON
Under sunny skies, almost 400 runners turned out for the second annual Brainerd Jaycees Run for the Lakes Saturday in Nisswa.

On a day that was ideal for long-distance running, Baxter's Casey Miller captured the full marathon with a 2:43.10.
Brainerd's Kristine Hup was the top female finisher. She crossed the finish line in 3:30:24.
Kristine Hup of Brainerd was the first woman runner to cross the finish line in Nisswa's Run for the Lakes Marathon on Saturday.

Sarah Sellnow, chairperson for the Brainerd Jaycees, was ecstatic about the entire weekend of events.
"The weekend went very well," she said. "The weather cooperated with us. It was a little chilly on Friday, but overall it was a good weekend. Overall, our numbers were up. All the volunteers did a great job, and we had a lot of comments on how the course was set up."
Last year's inaugural event was run in a snowstorm. This year's weather prediction was for rough weather, but the Saturday skies turned sunny.
"It was perfect for runners," Sellnow said. "It didn't rain and the sun came out. It did get a little windy but not bad. We couldn't have asked for a better day in terms of the weather. I know people had good times because the conditions were ideal. It also helped with a lot of walkup registration on Friday night."

There were events for runners of all age and running class. The full marathon event had a total of 72 participants ranging in age from 24-83.
The half marathon had 210 registered runners. Chris Brown of Garfield had the first-place time of 1:18:19. Brainerd's Brian Kinsey was the top area runner finishing second in 1:19:20. Jackie Devine of Little Falls was the top area female finisher. She completed the course in 1:37:59 for 18th.
Breezy Point's Eric Carder won the 5K with a 19:18. Madeline Hastings of Nisswa finished in 24:09 and Baxter's Angela Hanske ran a 24:10 were the top area females.
The relay event was won by the Patriots team, consisting of Jacob Headlee, Adison Runberg, Jake Braam and Sam Headlee with a time of 3:00:27.
"I think everything flowed a lot better because we had a much better grasp on how to run the event," Sellnow said. "We really listened to the feedback from last year's volunteers and participants about what worked well and what didn't work. One area that we stepped up was in our water stops. It was a lot easier for the volunteers this year.
"Friday night went well. Having the tented area was great for registration. The kids fun run was great. They loved every second of it and had a lot of fun. Just to be able to see their excitement to be able to run the dash down the street and finish under the big banner was pretty cool. We had 157 registered participants for the 5k run and so it was great."
