PILLAGER -- Courtney Branstner went 5-for-7 with six RBI and three runs and Sami Seaton was 4-7 with seven RBI and four runs for the Verndale Pirates in a 29-16 Park Region Conference softball victory over the Pillager Huskies Tuesday.

Verndale's Bobbie Rogge was 4-7 with six runs and Chelsa Beaver was 2-4 with seven runs scored.

Pillager's Tiffany Dixon was 3-for-4 with two doubles, a triple and three RBI and Tara Buckingham was 3-4 with a triple and three RBI. Tracy Bell was 3-4 with a double for Pillager.

STAPLES -- Shari Berg pitched both games of a doubleheader and struck out 16, leading the Staples-Motley Cardinals to 13-0 and 10-0 Mid-State Conference softball victories Tuesday over Pine River-Backus.

S-M's Liza Milless went 2-3 with two RBI and Brenda Dailey was 2-2 with two RBI and two runs in game one.

Katti Crawford went 2-3 with one run and two RBI and Berg went 1-1 with one run and one RBI in game two.

PR-B's Chelsey Dabill was a combined 2-4.

PEQUOT LAKES -- Courtney Markham was 3-for-3 with two runs and one RBI, helping the Pequot Lakes Patriots to a 10-0 opening game, Mid-State Conference victory over the Crosby-Ironton Rangers Tuesday.

Pequot won the second game 11-8 thanks to Mandie Roggenkamp, who went 2-3 with two runs.

Pequot's Maria Craig and Kayla Lenz each went 2-4 with a run in game one. Lenz added a RBI.

C-I's Betsy Wehseler went 2-3 with a pair of runs scored in game two.
