20 years ago (1984)

Winds, gusting to 57 m.p.h. roared through Brainerd and the surrounding area this morning, downing power lines, damaging homes and knocking down trees.

30 years ago (1974)

An effort begun last summer to raise money for a new medical center in Walker has been successful. To date $89,000 has been raised and the medical center is under construction.

40 years ago (1964)

Plans for improving and enlarging the Gull Lake Drive-In Theater were announced today by the new owners, Paul Mans and James H. Hill of Minneapolis.

60 years ago (1944)

Sanitary Market and Land O'Lakes met Wednesday night in a combined bowling match and party, with sanitary market emerging on the long end of a 2,788 to 2,674 count.

80 years ago (1924)

A fond father discovered his young hopeful reading a dime novel. "Unhand me, villain," the detected boy cried, "or there will be bloodshed."

"No," said the father grimly, tightening the hold on the boy's collar, "not bloodshed, woodshed."

100 years ago (1904)

Proprietor W.T. Larabee, of the Ideal announces that his cafe is now open for business and the service and equipment throughout is the best. A businessmen's lunch will be served every day from 11:30 a.m to 2 p.m. for 25.
