April 27-May 3 names Volunteer Recognition Week

While this weekend's wintry weather may prompt some to yearn for the beginning of May on Thursday, longtime Brainerd resident Yibby Knudsen offers a word of caution.

Knudsen recalled on prom night of his senior year of high school, May 9, 1937, Brainerd received 6 inches of snow. He remembered that it was quite a chore to get to the high school and keep the girls' dresses clean.

"There's no guarantee with the weather," Knudsen said.

Arbor Day activities rescheduled

The Brainerd Park and Recreation Department's Arbor Day event that had been scheduled for last Friday was postponed one week and rescheduled for 9:30 a.m. Friday at Gregory Park.
