Babe is getting the full treatment.

The Oxtrot, an "oxpedition of art in the lakes area," now has 23 sponsored statues in the lakes area.

The colorful statues will be popping up in time for the governor's fishing opener on the May 9 weekend. The effort is a combination of providing an outlet for area artists, showcasing public art and offering an attraction for visitors and residents. Oxtrot statues will be placed throughout lakes area communities.

Josh Porter, Oxtrot project organizer from Avalon Studios, said artists were decorating statues last week. Once they were completed, the statues were expected to return to the Highway 18 Collision Center. Porter said the statues would be clear coated for protection and then put out for the fishing opener.

A herd of Oxtrot statues was recently delivered to the lakes area. The statues will be decorated by artists and set out in lakes area communities in time for the May fishing opener.

Babe's blog with ongoing adventures - available online at www.explorebrainerdlakes.com/FindingBabe.htm - gives big blue's thoughts and sprinkles in lakes area activities. His blog last week included thoughts about working off winter weight by participating in the Brainerd Jaycees Run for the Lakes Half Marathon. "But I don't think my big, blue bod is up for that yet," Babe wrote. The Find Babe Web page includes some thoughts from Babe's pal Paul. Additional Oxtrox information is there as well.

Mickey's restaurant is open in Nisswa near the intersection of Main Street and Highway 371 North.
