AITKIN -- Donald L. Burt, age 63, of Aitkin, died on Saturday, April 23, 2005, at his home. He was born on April 22, 1942, in Grand Rapids. He graduated from Grand Rapids High School, attended Itasca Junior College, Bemidji State and received his master's degree from UMD. He married Janet Miller on April 19, 1968, in Grand Rapids. He was an elementary teacher in Aitkin, was active in area cattle and breeding associations, and was junior high wrestling coach for 15 years. He was a member of St. James Church and the Aitkin County Fair Board. He is survived by his wife, Jan; son and daughter-in-law, Graig and Tonya Burt, of Rogers, Minn.; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Bob Sampson, of Gales Ferry, Conn.; grandchildren, Justin and Evan Burt; a sister, Marjorie (Frank) Anderson, of Bismarck, N.D.; brothers, Jack (Mary) Burt, of Jacobson, David and (Gloria) Burt, of Cameron, Mo.; nieces and nephews; and godson, Darik Lamke.
Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. James Catholic Church in Aitkin with Father Paul Fruth and Father Jerry Schik officiating. Interment will be private. Friends may call at the Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home in Aitkin on Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. with prayers at 7 p.m. Visitation also will be one hour before the services at the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Don Burt memorial fund for Junior Cattle Association members in care of the family.
Arrangements are with the Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home in Aitkin.
