Pirates, Patriots earn wins at tourney

MENAHGA -- The Verndale Pirates beat Pequot Lakes 12-3 and the Patriots later downed Eagle Valley 19-4 in both teams' only wins of the Menahga tournament Saturday.

Verndale's Sami Seaton collected eight hits in the tournament as well as the win against the Patriots. Courtney Brantsner went 3-for-5 with four RBI against Pequot Lakes.

Courtney Markham led the Patriots with four hits, including a two-run home run against the Pirates. Kayla Lenz had five hits in the tournament and Lindsey Friesz added four hits in three games.

Flyers pick up first win

LITTLE FALLS -- The Little Falls Flyers picked up their first win of the season, beating Isle 11-0 before falling 8-0 to South St. Paul and 6-5 to Minneapolis Washburn at the Little Falls Invitational Saturday.

Kelly Molitor had two hits, including a triple, and three RBI. Casey Theis added a triple and Kim Dick drove in two runs in the Flyers' win over Isle.

Tigers earn first win

PARK RAPIDS -- Ashley Smith was 2-for-2 while Lindie Walker went 2-3 with an RBI and pitched the Pine River-Backus Tigers to their first win of the season, beating Norman County West 14-4 at the Park Rapids tournament Saturday.

Walker collected four hits in the tournament, Saara Backberg added three hits and Erin Cusac had two hits for the Tigers.
