Warriors sweep Apollo in softball

ST. CLOUD -- The Brainerd Warriors softball team scored 34 runs in its doubleheader against St. Cloud Apollo to win 16-4 and 18-1 in Central Lakes Conference play Tuesday.

Brainerd pitcher Laura Clemens notched two strikeouts, walked two and scattered 13 hits as she allowed four runs in the first game. Lisa Gorron was 3-for-3 at the plate for the Warriors in the opening contest while Jackie Byrn went 4-for-5 and Jessie Pohlkamp was 1-for-3.

In the nightcap, Warrior starter Melynda Ringstrom struck out three while she gave up just one run on four hits and no walks.

In game two, Jackie Sullivan went 2-for-3 for Brainerd with a double. Gorron was 1-for-2 and also had a double. Byrn went 2-for-2, Gena Clough was 2-for-4 and Heather Jacobson went 2-for-3.

"We hit the living tar out of the ball," Brainerd coach Mike Zauhar said. "Our bats came alive. Defensively, we've been playing great and that continued in this game as well."
