WALKER -- Brenda Joyce Strempke, 53, Cushing, was arraigned April 23 on one criminal vehicular homicide count in connection with a two-vehicle accident which killed Robin Schlechter.
The head-on collision a few miles west of Baxter on Highway 210 occurred about 5 p.m. Nov. 15.
According to the complaint against Strempke, she was traveling west on Highway 210 in the eastbound lane. Witnesses allege three drivers swerved out of her path before her vehicle struck the fourth, driven by 17-year-old Schlechter.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
One of the other drivers who allegedly swerved out of Strempke's path told officers he was not able to see her vehicle clearly, because of darkness, but believed something was in his lane, because oncoming traffic lights were obscured, according to the complaint.
The accident occurred in the section of Highway 210 where there is two-way traffic, west of the four-lane section.
Following Strempke's arraignment in Cass County Court, Judge John P. Smith set a May 14 omnibus hearing.
Strempke was released on her own recognizance.
