The deadline to file for the Wool and Mohair Market Loss Assistance Program II was extended from mid April to May 4.
Payments are for producers who produced and sheared wool or mohair from Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2000.
The Commodity Credit Corp. will determine the national payment rate at the close of the application period based on $19.956 million allotted and the reported eligible wool and mohair. The payment rate per pound will be based on a factoring of available funds divided by total pounds of eligible wool and mohair reported on each approved application and shall not exceed 40 cents per pound of wool and mohair.
Eligible wool and mohair must have been produced and sheared in the United States from livestock owned 30 calendar days or more by the producer at the time of shearing during the 2000 market year.
The wool and mohair does not have to be sold to be eligible for payment. A producer does not have to be currently producing wool or mohair, but the producer must still be in the business of producing and marketing agricultural products.
