Nicole Spear from Habitat for Humanity will be the featured speaker at First Congregational United Church of Christ's adult forum at 11 a.m. Sunday. She will discuss the goals of Habitat and the volunteer opportunities available locally. She will also be speaking at a community information meeting on Tuesday in the church fellowship hall.
A night of comedy with Ken Davis
BACKUS - Church of the Nazarene, Backus, will present a night of comedy with Ken Davis at 6 p.m. May 30 as part of the church's 75th anniversary celebration.
Davis is a Christian comedian that has a special connection to the churchsince his grandfather, Lester Davis, helped start the Church of the Nazarene in the Backus area.

Third annual public servants service
BAXTER - The members of First Baptist Church, 7398 Fairview Road, Baxter, will host the third annual public servants service at 10:45 a.m. Sunday. The service is dedicated to the police, fire and emergency workforce, along with families of the men and women who continuously risk their lives. A lunch will follow the service. There is no cost to attend and child care services will be provided.

The Truth Project leader training set
BAXTER - Lakewood Evangelical Free Church, 6284 Fairview Rd., Baxter, will be hosting group leader training for Focus on the Family's The Truth Project from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. May 30.
The Truth Project is a DVD based small group study that practically and personally introduces viewers to the truth claims of God. Lessons cover topics such as "What is Truth," "Who is God," "Am I Alone" and many more.

Youth night (teens through college age) will be May 2 with pizza served at 5:30 p.m., a live band at 6:30 p.m. and a service at 7 p.m. Marsland's messages will be of hope and truth, relevant to all in a culture that is in such turmoil and uncertainty.
Rummage sale at Lutheran Church of Cross
NISSWA - Lutheran Church of the Cross, Nisswa, located near Schaefer's, will have its spring rummage sale from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. May 1 and from 8-11 a.m. May 2. The event is sponsored by Women of the ELCA.
Coffee house evening planned
Trinity Lutheran Church, 1420 S. Sixth St., Brainerd, will host a coffee house at 7 p.m. Sunday. The event will be an evening of music while enjoying coffee or tea and desserts. Silent auction items will be available to bid on during the evening. Free admission for the performance. There will be a charge of the coffee and treats.
The event is a fundraiser for Trinity's Tanzania mission trip which is sponsored by Peace House Africa, a Minnesota non-profit charitable organization that works to provide education to AIDS orphans in Tanzania.
Mother/daughter banquet
The "Back to the 50s" Brainerd lakes area mother/daughter banquet will begin with Mass at 5:15 p.m. May 6 at St. Francis Church with a meatloaf dinner at 6:15 p.m. at St. Francis Hall. Cost for adults is $8; children ages 6-10 is $6; and children 5 and under are free. There will be swing dance demonstrations and lessons.
Tickets will be sold after the Sunday morning Masses and at the parish office through May 1.
Dressing in 50's attire is encouraged.
