"The Writing of 'Hephzebeth, Woman of Iron': Putting Together Family Stories" will be the focus of Lauren Nickisch's presentation at 7 p.m. May 1 at the Brainerd Public Library's First Thursdays Speaker Series.
Nickisch created the play "Hephzebeth, Woman of Iron," which came about as a result of her extensive research of her maternal family. Hephzebeth was Nickisch's great-great-grandmother, and was a Duluth pioneer. She settled in the Duluth area in 1856, and was only the third white woman to settle there.
While researching Hephzebeth, Nickisch was struck by the importance of writing down the details of our lives, regardless of how mundane they may seem, so that future generations can learn about how things were done "in the olden days."
Nickisch is a longtime Brainerd resident and is a music specialist for Brainerd Public Schools. She is an actress, director and playwright.
This event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Wendy Lee at 829-5574.
