Devin O'Reilly has been a workhorse for the Brainerd Warriors boys' track and field team.
The senior sprinter competes in four events, each of which resulted in a victory Tuesday, and helped the Warriors beat St. Cloud Tech by a point in Tuesday's Central Lakes Conference triangular at Adamson Field.
O'Reilly paced the 100-meter dash, anchored the victorious 4x200 and 4x100 relays and won the long jump.
"He's been steady in the 100, the workhorse at the end of relays that you like to have and he just picked up the long jump in the last couple weeks," Warriors head coach Rod Reuer said. "With his speed and strength that's a good event for him. When he gets the technique down, obviously he will be able to have pretty good distance in his jumps.
"He's been steady all year. He's a senior returning sprinter. He's taken on that leadership role of the workhorse. He's a pretty quiet kid. He doesn't say a whole lot. He leads by performance. He's kind of taken over that sprint crew."
O'Reilly sprinted to a time of 11.53 seconds in the 100.
"I led the whole way," O'Reilly said. "I was in a hurry because I had to finish my two jumps for the long jump. I was kind of rushed."
O'Reilly long jumped 20 feet, 11 inches, the fifth-longest distance in school history.
"My first jump was 20-11," O'Reilly said. "I felt like I was flying. It was the first time I ever got height when I jumped."
O'Reilly anchored the 4x200 relay to a time of 1:33.94 and the 4x100 to a 46.74 clocking.
"I was in the lead both times," O'Reilly said. "The 4x200 was our fastest time of the year. We got on the honor roll with that. In the 4x100 we got our average time but we did pretty good though."
Pole vaulters Jorgen Hartje and Luke Furda finished 1-2, with Hartje clearing 12 feet and Furda 11-6.
"It's happened two weeks in a row where they're both at 11-6 or 12 feet," Reuer said. "They're staying consistent. That's a good sign. We haven't had real warm weather yet. We're hoping for more improvement. We need to do some fine tuning there and look for more."
