20 years ago (1989)

Brainerd will induct another standout female athlete in its Athletic Hall of Fame during the annual all-sports banquet. Ramona (Rugloski) Hjerpe was a three-sport athlete who went on to break basketball records at St. Cloud State.

30 years ago (1979)

A substantial number of suspected cases of red measles have been reported during the past week, it was learned today from county health officer Dr. Mark Muesing.

40 years ago (1969)

As a Washington High School freshman Michael Cain, son of Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Cain, Brainerd, sang a solo in a high school musical. Today he is a sophomore in music at the University of Minnesota and a member of the St. Paul Civic Opera Co.

60 years ago (1949)

The war on rats will be a major phase of the Brainerd Jaycees sponsored Clean-up, Paint-up, Fix-up campaign. This is a follow-up to last year's campaign when rat control was done throughout the city and at the dump.

80 years ago (1929)

Aviators in the Brainerd area should be sure of their landing conditions. We remember the aviator who was told all of Gull Lake was suitable to land a hydroplane, except he hit a telephone wire strung between two points and came to grief.

100 years ago (1909)

Active work on the construction of the Cuyuna Iron Range railroad, the new line that is to connect Deerwood and the range with the Head of the Lakes, will be commenced within the next 60 days.
