Holbrook, Moritz shine

Pillager's Tyler Holbrook scored 16 points and was named most valuable player in a 65-60 Royal boys' team victory over the Scarlet team in the fourth annual North Central All-Star basketball series at Bemidji State University.

Holbrook's coaches were his high school coaches, Jim Bentson and Scott Mudgett. Holbrook also won the 3-point contest, hitting 13 in one minute.

Tyler Holbrook is a senior at Pillager.

Wadena-Deer Creek's Matt Lepper scored three points for the Scarlet team.

Crosby-Ironton's Alisha Moritz hit the game-winning basket in the second overtime and finished with 12 points to earn MVP honors in a 61-59 Maroon victory. Naomi Anderson of Pine River-Backus added seven points for the Maroon.

PR-B's Taylor Sheley finished with 12 points and Pierz's Katie Kimman added 10 as their team lost to 54-49 in the second girls' game.

Alisha Moritz is a senior at Crosby-Iroton.

Holbrook's high school teammate, Jake Martin, tallied seven points in a 68-56 victory in the first boys' game. Caleb Nurnberger of Staples-Motley scored 11 for the losing team. Nurnberger was second in the 3-point contest.

Crosby-Ironton's Derek Swanhorst scored nine points in a 54-45 win in the second game. On the losing side, Pierz's Aric Welle scored 10 points.
