Ruth Holmes

PINE RIVER - Ruth Evelyn Mills Holmes, of Pine River, died Saturday, April 12, 2008, at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Pine River, Minn. She was over 100 years old. She was born Dec. 15, 1907, near West Liberty, Iowa, the daughter of William Leroy Mills and Nora Knott. On the Fourth of July, 1925, she was united in marriage. They moved to East Chicago, Ind., where they owned a paint store. In 1950, they sold the paint store and bought a farm in Cass County, Minn., which they turned into a resort called "Deer Acres" on Sand Lake near Hackensack. They had two children, Wayne Holmes and Audrey May Smith. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband; two children; one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren. She is survived by eight grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 22 great-great-grandchildren. Private family services will be held. Arrangements are with Kline Funeral Home, Pine River.
