State champion diver Shaun Kennedy of Brainerd has been awarded a president's distinguished student scholarship from the University of Minnesota.
The award recognizes the achievements and potential of the most promising incoming freshmen. Kennedy will be a freshman at Minnesota this fall in the Institute of Technology.
JV softball team defeats Spuds
The Brainerd Warriors junior varsity softball team defeated Moorhead 16-8 Monday.
Paige Olson hit two home runs for Brainerd and Hillary Smith picked up the win on the mound.
JV tennis team loses to Little Falls
The Little Falls Flyers defeated the Brainerd Warriors 9-3 in junior varsity tennis Monday.
Winners for Brainerd in singles were Allem Mena and Jason Houle. The Brainerd doubles team of John Gellert-Conrad Kragness also picked up a win.
Baseball skills clinics Wednesday
The Brainerd Parks and Recreation Department will have skills clinics for Mustang, Bronco and Pony baseball league players 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Memorial Park.
Mustang players will meet at the Bronco/Mustang field. Bronco players will meet at Fields 1 and 2 (across from Missota). Pony players will meet inside Mills Field.
The clinic is for first-year players in each league.
Killebrew baseballs to be auctioned
A silent auction for two baseballs autographed by Hall of Famer Harmon Killebrew will take place at the Brainerd Parks and Recreation Department's skills clinic Wednesday at Mills Field.
Bidding will begin at 5:30 p.m. and conclude at the end of the clinic. Balls will be bid on separately.
Proceeds from the sale of each ball will be used to help purchase participation trophies for the night baseball and softball programs. The public will be allowed to be bid on the balls. Cash or checks are acceptable.
