The Brainerd City Council approved permits for a temporary on-sale liquor license, a temporary 3.2 percent malt beverage sales, a public dance license, and a lawful gambling permit for a raffle to the Jaycees for the Great Northern BBQ Event to be held at intersection of Maple and South Eighth streets July 18-19 contingent on the Jaycees paying for police security at the event.
Approved a lawful gambling application for the Brainerd Elks Lodge No. 615 for raffles to be held Sept. 5, Oct. 26, Nov. 22 and Dec. 16 at the Brainerd Elks Lodge.
Had the second reading on a proposed ordinance regulating the sale of second-hand goods within the city.
Approved the transfer of $200,000 from the general fund to the public safety fund, $100,000 from the general fund to the park fund, $88,850 from the general fund to the street and sewer fund, $11,150 from the general fund to the airport fund, and $4,700 from the arena fund to the debt service fund.
Accepted the bid of $102,631 from Anderson Brothers Construction for the construction of a frontage road in the Norrgard Addition along Business Highway 371.
Had the second reading on a proposed ordinance annexing 9.76 acres of land in Unorganized Territory and zoning the land multiple family by a 4-3 vote, with council members Koep, Olson and Anne Nelson Fisher voting against. A motion by Fisher to amend the ordinance as rural residential was defeated 4-3, with council members Dehen, Nesheim, Scheeler and Kelly Bevans voting against.
Approved a change order of $4,187 from Construction Analysis Management for the police and fire facility improvements.
Heard a presentation on the Crow Wing County Comprehensive Plan update from Howard Blanck.
Had the first reading on a proposed ordinance deleting multiple unit dwellings for the elderly from suburban residential zones.
Called for applicants for a three-year term to the Cable Advisory Committee.
Asked for council liaisons to the Airport Commission, the Fire Advisory Board and the Planning Commission.
Approved $3,000 to update the Brainerd police officer eligibility list.
Directed staffers to get a legal opinion on allowing city employees to sign up for AFLAC supplemental insurance.
Directed City Administrator Dan Vogt to go out for proposals for an interim planning consultant to fill in during City Planer/Community Development Coordinator Mike Brethorst's military leave of absence starting in June.
Set a public hearing for May 5 and requested a feasibility report for a proposed Wonderland Park Road utilities project.
