Andrew Schindler, the son of Lynn and Gene Teufert of Brainerd, has been accepted into Minnesota State University , Mankato. Schindler is involved in the Brainerd High School A Cappella Choir, Herd of Bananas and Windfall.

The following students from Riverside Elementary School in Brainerd were named students of the month for March: Grant Evans, Spencer DeRosier, Luke Boran, Dallas Lockwood, Baili Christensen, Andrew Olson, Tyler Blazek, Matthew Summers, Emily Dumbeck, Loren Jones, Sarah Sorenson, Chayse Nash, Katelyn Pederson, Tyler Cronquist, Alexander Sauer, Carlie Thompson, Ashley Banks, Nathan Hegstrom, Joseph Fritscher, Alicia Wallin and Kylie Stanfield.

Jennifer Person, the daughter of Howard and Lois Person of Baxter, graduated with honors from Northwestern Health Sciences University in Bloomington. She received her doctor of chiropractic degree and a bachelor's degree in human biology.

Jessica Risco, Merrifield, served as an academic assistant for theater and dance during the 2001-02 school year at Gustavus Adolphus College.

The following students from Garfield Elementary School in Brainerd were named students of the month for March: Harlee Annable, Alyssa Miles, Drake Larson, Mitch Gross, Alex Satre, Kelsey Ketterling, Katie Wig, Melanie Bryant, Rita Balsimo, Devan Auchter, Kayla Voss, Andrew Ralph, Dillon McKay, Patrick Handles, Ashley LeVoux, C.J. Wicktor and Cassie Logelin.

The following area students are student teaching through an intern program at Bemidji State University: Amy Kappes, Baxter, and Jessica Isackson, Nisswa, are teaching at Pequot Lakes Elementary School; Chris Trout, Motley, is majoring in social studies and is teaching at Brainerd High School; Sally Bisted, Brainerd, is teaching at Nisswa Elementary School; Laura Prettyman, Brainerd, is teaching at Pillager Elementary School; and Gregory Will, Pine River, is teaching at Central Elementary School in Bemidji.

Sarah Miller and Aubrie Anderson, seniors at Isle High School, are recipients of the 2002 Central Lakes Community College and Technical Scholarships, announced the youth activities committee of the Brainerd Elks Lodge No. 615. The scholarships are $1,400. Miller received the Degree College Scholarship and plans to pursue a degree in nursing. Miller would like to be a registered nurse in a neonatal intensive care unit. She is involved in volleyball, softball, student council and National Honor Society. Anderson received the Technical College Career Education Scholarship and she is going into nursing. She is involved in National Honor Society, volleyball, student council and is on the prom committee. Anderson is currently working at the Mille Lacs Health System in long-term care and is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Charity Joy Klebs Starkka, the daughter of Merrill and Judena Klebs of Bertha, was awarded a Southwest State University Leadership Scholarship for the 2002-03 academic year. Starkka is majoring in elementary education.

Melissa Snyder, the daughter of Jan and Doris Mezzenga of Crosslake, was recognized as an award recipient during the annual award day presentation at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, Miss. She was inducted into Phi Kappa Phi honor society. Snyder is majoring in political science.

Katherine Wilcox, Brainerd, is a recipient of the Sarah Ann Uhl Cram Scholarship in Education for the 2002-03 academic year at St. Cloud State University.

The following students from Family of Christ Lutheran School were named to the "A" honor roll: Third-graders Joseph Andersen and Jordan Nocton; fourth-graders Angela Small and Jonathan Warling; and sixth-grader Emily Petersen. Named to the "B" honor roll were third-grader Ryan Benhardus; fourth-graders Caleb Moistner and Rydre Torgerson; and fifth-graders Jeremy Bartel and Matt Peterson. Named to the principal's list were fifth-graders Bethany Andersen and Andrea Lemieux.

Chelsey Nelson, Brainerd, was selected as girl student of the month for March at Family of Christ Lutheran School in Baxter. Nelson's first-grade teacher said Nelson worked hard, always completes her homework, has shown maturity and is an excellent student role model.

Kyle Thomas, Brainerd, was selected as boy student of the month for March at Family of Christ Lutheran School in Baxter. Thomas' first-grade teacher said she is delighted in the growth and maturity Thomas has demonstrated this year in his attitude and school work.
