Little Bruce is getting a new bike just for encouraging mom to keep playing the lottery. Elizabeth Geers of St. Cloud redeemed the region's first Match 3 $5,000 winner at the regional lottery office in Brainerd.

Nancy Schultz singled to shallow left field, then stole second base and scored on Marge Schaefer's single to left in the bottom of the eighth inning to give Coach Colleen Carder's Warriors a hard-earned 3-2 softball victory over Hibbing.

Harry Davis of Minneapolis will be the featured speaker when an Exchange Club Freedom Shrine is dedicated at Brainerd High School. The Freedom Shrine, containing facsimiles of 28 famous documents in U. S. history, is being donated by the club.
60 years ago (1950)
A 20-man crew worked feverishly through the night battling a leak in a dike at the Sylvan dam. Rising waters began wearing on the west side of the dike, forcing an opening 60 to 70 feet wide, endangering the dam near the junction of the Crow Wing and Gull Rivers.
80 years ago (1930)
Dredging to transform the lake front into a harbor and suitable for bathing has begun at the Mille Lacs summer home of Earl Brown, chief of the Minnesota Highway Patrol. The land is currently swamp surrounded by high ground.
100 years ago (1910)
The new ferry boat between Crosby and Deerwood has been put in commission. It makes the run between the towns in 15 minutes and is drawing good patronage. A grand ball was given to celebrate the completion of the new hotel, with 50 people present.
