NISSWA - Molly Hoppe doesn't have a short game.
But when the Brainerd Warriors freshmen hones her wedges and putter watch out.
Even with a "terrible" short game, Hoppe shot an 85 Friday at Grand View Lodge's The Pines to finish with a two-day 172 good for seventh individually in the Preserve-Pines girls' golf invitational.
Duluth Marshall's Lisa Moline shot 79 Friday to finish with a 154 and earn medalist honors.
The defending Class 2A state champion Detroit Lakes Lakers finished with a two-day 700 to win the event, followed by Duluth Marshall's second-place 708.
The Staples-Motley Cardinals, led by Cydney Hasselberg's 12th-place 180, finished sixth. Brainerd placed 10th followed by Crosby-Ironton in 12th, Wadena-Deer Creek in 14th and Pequot Lakes in 16th place.

Hoppe shot nines of 42 and 43 to shave off two strokes from Thursday's 87.
"My long game and my irons and woods were the best part of my game," said Hoppe. "My short game was really bad today. I was hitting the ball really well, but my short game wasn't good."
Hoppe said her game was consistent during both sun soaked days at the two Grand View Lodge courses. And despite the lack of a driver and a short game, she's happy with her play overall.
"The biggest thing right now is distance control because compared to last year I'm hitting the ball a lot further," said Hoppe. "So I was really screwed up in our first meet (Monday). All my shots were going over. Now I'm kind of getting a feel for it more.
"The only thing is I haven't hit my driver in a meet yet because that's not working too well right now."

Teammate Lucy Sweeney trimmed off five strokes from her 101 Thursday to card 96 Friday. She finished with a two-day 197. Brittany Kohlmeier shot a 107 Friday for a 222 and Tori Paloney finished with a two-day 207.
"The girls all want to work on their short game so hopefully next week at the range we can spend a lot of time on the practice green chipping and putting and emphasizing that aspect of the game," said Brainerd head coach Brian Stark. "I'm very pleased with Molly's consistency so far. She's only a ninth-grader but she played in a lot of junior tournaments last summer which I think helped her. It's still early in the year, this is her third time playing 18 holes, and I'm really pleased with how she has started the year."
Hasselberg shot nines of 44-48 for a 92 Friday. She shot 88 Thursday at the Preserve. Hailey Roberts shot a 193 and Julia Schock shot 198 as the Cardinals finished with a 772.
Hanna Cragun and Anne Johnson led the Rangers, finishing with two-day totals of 200.
W-DC's Tracy Gustafson finished with a 207 to lead the Wolverines and Megan Lenz's 209 paced the Patriots.
