Most of the time my wife and I know what makes each other happy. This time of year she knows that wild turkeys and everything involved in the hunting of wild turkeys makes me happy. I know that when it's brown and dreary around here she likes to get out of town. This spring we both got our way.
Shelley was asked by her friend, Ruth, to come down and spend a few days at her condo in Florida. Shelley was elated. It's nice to have friends who share such good things and knowing how much this get-a-way meant to Shelley, I was happy for her. She knows I hunt turkeys as much as I can before fishing season begins in earnest.
So it becomes a trade-out. She gets to go away and I get to go away. There are obvious differences in our vacations, but when I'm done with turkey hunting I'm usually in need of a vacation like the type she's on. Roaming the hills and waking up at dark-thirty every morning takes its toll. But that's my choice and I wouldn't have it any other way.
This past week was crazy, especially Wednesday. I've never been so busy. I now totally appreciate everything Shelley does. I'm trying to run my business while at the same time running the kids to swimming, school, church, here, there and everywhere. It isn't easy being a single parent, but now I'm more aware of how tough it really is.
So it goes. I hope Shelley and Ruth are enjoying their time on the beach. Lord knows I'll love my time resting against a tree yelping and purring and waiting for the gobble.
