AITKIN -- Elmira "Myra" E. McGarrahan, age 92, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 20, 2005, at the Riverwood Healthcare Center, Aitkin. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 23, 2005, at St. James Catholic Church in Aitkin. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, April 22, 2005, at the Willim-St. Onge Family Funeral Home in Aitkin with vigil service and rosary at 7 p.m. Friends also may call one hour prior to services Saturday at the church. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, 2005, in St. Bridget's Cemetery, Moodus, Conn.
Elmira Elizabeth Lagasse was born June 8, 1912, in Providence, R.I., the daughter of Henry and Eleanor Lagasse. She was raised and educated in the area of her birth. She married Charles Raymond McGarrahan on July 25, 1936, in Providence, R.I. After their marriage they lived for 20 years in Sag Harbor, Long Island, N.Y., where her husband worked for the Bulova Watch Co. They then moved to Rolla, N.D., when Charles was transferred to work at the new Bulova Jewel Bearing Plant as an industrial diamond cutter. Elmira worked as a receptionist and a medical records clerk at the clinic in Rolla from 1955-1974. Upon retirement they moved to East Haddam, Conn., where they resided until her husband's death in October 1990. She then moved to a senior housing facility in Moodus, Conn. In July of 2000 she moved to the Aitkin area to be close to her family. Elmira's hobbies and interests included baking birthday cakes for family and friends, spending time with her grandchildren, dressing up in homemade costumes and decorating for Halloween, and all of her friends at Mary Hill Manor in Aitkin. She was a member of the Deerwood Lakes Lions Club and St. James Catholic Church in Aitkin.
Survivors include her children, Carroll (Adolph) Kukowski, of Deerwood, Minn., and John (Kathleen) McGarrahan, of Coon Rapids, Minn.; grandchildren, Barry (Jean) Kukowski, of Clearwater, Scott Kukowski, of Newark, Calif., Becky (Randy) King, of Detroit Lakes, Minn., Corey Kukowski, of Redwood City, Calif., Todd (Ann) Kukowski, of Aitkin; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Elmira is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four brothers and six sisters.
The Willim-St. Onge Family Funeral Home in Aitkin is in charge of arrangements.
