Gary recently cleaned out the chest freezer and found a few packages of round steak that needed to be used. I decided to make simmered beef.
After combining the ingredients on the stove, I put the ingredients in my crockpot and simmered the beef for a couple of hours until we were ready to eat. It had great flavor and was extremely easy to make.
I served it over riced potatoes, but it is also good served over cooked egg noodles or hot rice.
This is a great way to help tenderize a tougher cut of meat. I've also used venison for this recipe.
Saucy Beef Tips
3 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 onion, chopped
Flour, enough to cover cubed meat
Package of round steak, cubed
2 cups water
1/4 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 .75-ounce package dry brown gravy mix
1 cup water
In a large skillet, heat oil over high heat. Saut the onion until almost translucent. Shake the meat cubes in flour and add to the onion and cook on high until meat is browned on all sides, about 3-5 minutes. Pour 2 cups water, soy sauce and Worcestershire sauce into the skillet. Stir in garlic powder, salt and pepper. Bring to a boil and reduce heat. Cover and simmer for 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Meanwhile, combine the gravy mix with 1 cup water. Mix thoroughly and stir into the meat mixture. Bring to a boil, stirring frequently until slightly thickened. You may thicken sauce with cold water and flour mixture at the end.
Stuffed Pita Bread
Red or green onion, diced
Low-fat Mozzarella cheese
Use any combination of the above raw vegetables. Chop fine and mix with Mozzarella cheese. Place vegetable and cheese mixture inside pita pocket. Microwave 60 seconds until cheese melts and vegetables are warm. This is so delicious.
Broiled Fish Fillets
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1/2 cup Parmesan cheese
4 tablespoons butter, softened
3 tablespoons mayonnaise
3 tablespoons green onion, chopped
1/2 teaspoon salt
Dash pepper, to taste
Dash tabasco sauce
Butter dish for broiler. Place fish in dish. Brush with 2 tablespoons lemon juice. Let stand 10 minutes. While waiting, combine the remaining ingredients. Broil fillets 3-4 inches from heat for 5 minutes. Spread mixture over fillets. Broil 2-3 minutes.
GARY'S TIP: Clean blinds by taking them off the window and laying them in a tub of sudsy ammonia. Then hang over the tub to dry.
