Pine River-Backus boy's golf team downs Wadena-Deer Creek

PINE RIVER -- Logan Sasse led the Pine River-Backus Tigers boy's golf team to a 184-199 dual meet win over the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines Friday at the Pine River Country Club.

Sasse's 40 along with Andy Bettino, Willy Devorak and Neal Winn shooting 48 was enough to prevail over Chris Neu's W-DC leading score of 45.

"I was kind of surprised with the consistency of the younger guys we have playing," said Tigers coach Mark Gonnion. "Hopefully that will be a reflection on how they will play and improve during the season. We're happy with our first meet of the season."

Aulie takes second in opening meetP>

FARIBAULT -- Sophomore Ricky Aulie started out the season right finishing second individually at the Shattuck Invitational at Faribault boys' golf tournament Friday.

Aulie a member of the Crosby-Ironton Rangers shot a 75 while the individual medalist Mike Fiedler of host Faribault won the tournament with a 68.

This was Aulie and the rest of the Rangers squad's first time on a course.

"A trip down south is usually our first time on the golf course," said Ranger head coach Rich Aulie. "I was really surprised with the way Ricky and Mikael Christenson played. Once we get on the course we'll be in good shape for the season."

C-I finished 16 out of 19 teams.
