HIBBING -- The Central Lakes College Raiders had their 11-game winning streak snapped Thursday as they split with the Hibbing Cardinals.
The Raiders took the first game, shutting out Hibbing 2-0 but fell in the second 12-2 in five innings.
Raiders starting pitcher Joe Bruns threw five innings in the first game, giving up three hits, striking out two and walking just one.
The Cardinals tied to rally in the bottom of the seventh inning as a runner reached base on an error. Bruns was then relieved by Darren Prom, who allowed a base hit and a dribbler back to the mound put runners second and third. With one out, Prom struck out the next batter and forced the leadoff man to ground out as Prom preserved the win Bruns.
Nate Huber was 1-for-3 and drove in the Raiders only two runs, while Terry Simon was 2-for-3 with a double.
The second game was a much different outcome as Hibbing jumped out to an early 8-0 lead after just two innings.
The Raiders received their first loss in the MCCC Northern Division (11-1) and are now 13-3 overall.
