Brainerd High School graduate Turena (Johnson) Lane placed 18th overall in the women's division of the Boston Marathon on Monday with a time of 2:44:23.
Boston also served as the host race for the U.S. Women's Marathon National Championship, in which Lane was the 11th-fastest American.
Lane's time at Boston and at the Twin Cities Marathon last fall qualified her for the 2008 Olympic Marathon Trials the day before next year's 2008 Boston Marathon.
JV girls' golf team places second
The Brainerd Warriors girls' junior varsity golf team took second place in its first Central Lakes Conference meet of the season at Rocori on Thursday.
Brainerd scored a 215 that followed Sartell's 213. Willmar and St. Cloud Tech followed with scores of 227 and 229.
Scoring for Brainerd were Amanda Svoboda with a 50, Cassie Tomlinson 53, Erin Olejnicak 55 and Kirsti Helmberger 57.
Next meet is Monday hosted by St. Cloud Tech at Wapicada Golf Club.
