WILLMAR - The Brainerd Warriors swept the three doubles matchups, but Willmar took all four singles matches to pull out a 4-3 win in Central Lakes Conference tennis Thursday.
Corey Kuglin and Nathan Henningson teamed up to win No. 1 doubles 7-5 (6-7), 7-4, 6-2. Michael Ruen and Jared Anderson won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2. Garth Askegaard and Christopher Rud won convincingly at No. 3 doubles 6-1, 6-1.
Austin Shiltz was the only Warrior to win a set in singles play, losing 5-7, 6-3, 6-1 to Matt Hallstrom.
Warriors coach Bruce Thompson was happy with doubles play, but is searching for more consistency in singles.
"We really played well in doubles, now we're trying to find wins in singles," he said. "We need to find that. They are working hard, but we are just not getting wins."
