The Crow Wing County DFL recently conducted its annual convention at the Brainerd Public Library.
Terry Sluss was elected to serve as the convention chairperson.
Marcia Ferris, DFL activist who has worked on numerous campaigns and served as an officer and director for many years was elected chair.
Other officers include: Rolf Westgard, associate chair; Jesse Nix, secretary; Melissa Samuelson, treasurer; and Troy Bock, affirmative action.
New directors are Eric Norquist, technology; Gwen Besnet, business; Maurice Olson, volunteers; and Steve Barrows, finance.
Continuing directors include Ed Shaw, candidate recruitment; Kathy Hegstrom, publicity; and Mari Jo Anderson, fundraising.
Serving on the State DFL Central Committee are the chair and associate chairpersons and Melissa Samuelson. The three alternate delegates are Susan Cebelinski, Robert Nesheim and Stan Nagorski.
Foundation seeks VISTA volunteers for nonprofits
Through a partnership with the AmeriCorps Volunteers In Service To America program, the Initiative Foundation is seeking 20 volunteers for community service in one of many project sites across central Minnesota.
AmeriCorps VISTA is a national service program similar to the Peace Corps. Working with organizations like the Initiative Foundation, it places volunteers in local nonprofit organizations and government agencies to help bring individuals and communities out of poverty.
The Initiative Foundation is seeking VISTAs to serve in Brainerd, Little Falls and Pine River.

BAXTER - The U.S. Global Apostolic Prayer Network will present Regional Worship and Prayer with the Firestarters at 6 p.m. Saturday at Lakewood Evangelical Free Church in Baxter.

Faith in Action for Cass County is "neighbors helping neighbors."
Faith in Action is receiving many calls for help with raking, clearing straw from drain fields and picking up fallen twigs and branches.
