Nancy Read, technical leader with the Metropolitan Mosquito Control District, will speak about public concerns with West Nile virus and how to minimize mosquito problems at a Brainerd Area Environmental Learning Network event 3-5 p.m. Thursday at the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, 7678 College Road in Baxter.
St. Joseph's Foundation distributes grants
St. Joseph's Foundation has distributed two grants totaling $13,181.
Bridges of Hope was the recipient of a $8,500 grant. Bridges of Hope works with families in the area of mental health.
Central Lakes College received a $4,681 grant. CLC will purchase technology equipment to enhance its nursing labs, which are used as a safe training environment. Many nursing students stay and work locally at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd.

Arbor Day bluegrass festival planned
A mini-bluegrass festival is planned 6-11 p.m. April 29 at the Northland Arboretum.
The event is a celebration of Arbor Day and will feature bluegrass bands, tree seedling giveaways and tours of the new Arboretum Visitor Center.
The family-oriented festival will benefit the arboretum. A $5-per-person donation is recommended. Admission is free for children 15 and younger.
The Northland Arboretum is a member-supported, non-profit organization at 14250 Conservation Drive behind Movies 10 in Baxter.
