In spite of the diversity of doctrines, worship styles, traditions and even ethnic backgrounds, our local churches find opportunities and places to express and exemplify the unity that is in our Lord Jesus.
While we may practice our faith in a variety of different ways, we are still set apart from the rest of the world and drawn together as "one body" by our common confession that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the the Living God.
This weekend we are participating in just such an event. Many of our residents are coming together Saturday morning at Central Lakes College for a community-wide prayer breakfast featuring Ken Davis. On behalf of the local ministerium and BAY Ministries, I want to take this opportunity to say "Thanks!" to The Brainerd Dispatch for all you have done to promote this event and for your partnership in making it happen.
In addition to the morning breakfast, BAY Ministries is sponsoring a "Comedy Concert" with Ken Davis at Lakewood Evangelical Free Church in Baxter on Saturday evening. This, too, will be a gathering of people from many different churches crossing denominational lines and celebrating our unity in the midst of our diversity.
I hope you and your church are taking part in these events this weekend. It is a tremendous witness in our community when we who claim to be brothers and sisters in Christ actually practice what we preach.
If you're reading this article before 5 p.m. today, you can still get a ticket for the breakfast at The Brainerd Dispatch. (If it's after 5 p.m., you're too late. ... Sorry, but tickets have been on sale for a number of weeks now.)
In either case, you can still come to the Comedy Concert at Lakewood where there'll be tickets available at the door.
When we come together as churches to do things like this, I always hope it's a sell-out ... standing room only. With all the people who belong to our churches, there's absolutely no reason in the world for us not to fill every seat and overflow into the hallways.
And on top of that, these kinds of events give us "church-goers" a great opportunity to invite someone from our neighborhood or workplace to come with us and experience "the church" in a new, fresh and different way.
So what about you? Are you coming? I sure hope to see you there!
