Cardinals topple Melrose

MELROSE - Staples-Motley earned a clean sweep in doubles action on its way to a 5-2 victory over Melrose on Friday.

The Cardinals' Max Facher and Adam Cox earned a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 2.

Jared Peterson and Derek Wolhowe won their No. 1 doubles match and David Kozitka and Grant Longbella completed the sweep for the Cardinals.

In singles, Mike Lindaman came away with a 6-1, 6-4 win and Anthony Duhn also won in straight sets 6-1, 6-0.

AITKIN - Kevin Hughes won at No. 4 singles for the Aitkin Gobblers as they were defeated by the Cloquet Lumberjacks 4-3 in boys' tennis Friday.

The Aitkin doubles team of Gabe Browning and Dan Catlin won at No. 2 and Jim Mattson and Dan Carlson won at No. 3 for the Gobblers.
