Ackerman hits for cycle

PINE RIVER - Jordan Ackerman hit for the cycle and pitched three innings of two-hit baseball to lead Pine River-Backus past Nevis 12-7 on Friday.

Ackerman went 4-for-4 with five RBIs, including a two-run homer. Andy Davidson went 2-3 with a double and three RBIs. Ryan Snavely went 2-3 as the Tigers won their conference opener.

PEQUOT LAKES - Brandon Hilts was 3-for-3 and Tyler Wittwer was 3-4 with a double for the Pequot Lakes Patriots as they dismantled the Walker-Hackensack-Akeley Wolves 15-4 in five innings in non-conference baseball Friday.

Tyler Wicker and Ben Kepner were both 2-3 for the Patriots.

Ryan Pahl got the win as he tossed a complete game, giving up five hits and three earned run with four strikeouts.

AITKIN - Matt Christensen pitched a complete game and went 3-for-3 with three runs and three RBIs to lead the Aitkin Gobbler's to an 11-1 victory over Ogilvie on Friday.

Christensen, who went five innings, allowed only four hits and one earned run while striking out nine.

Scott Nyberg was 2-2 with three runs, Jase Hegman was 2-3 with three RBIs and Dan Landrus was 1-1 with two runs, two walks and an RBI.

REGAL - Mike Weber belted a two-run homer and Scott Janson and Bobbie Froelich each had doubles for the Pierz Pioneers in a 9-4 loss to Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa on Friday.

The Pioneers managed six hits but could not overcome B-B-E's five-run second inning. Cory Egan took the loss and Janson and Weber each went 2-4.
