School advisory council to meet


The Brainerd School District Community Education Advisory Council will meet 7 p.m. Monday at Lincoln Elementary School cafeteria.

Brainerd school committee to meet

The Brainerd School District's Long Range Planning Committee will meet 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Whittier Elementary School to discuss staff development.

Financial Aid Night set April 26 at CLC

The financial aid staff of Central Lakes College will provide free information regarding financial aid at 6 p.m. April 26 at CLC campuses in Brainerd and Staples.

Brainerd's session will be held in the campus cafeteria. The Staples session will be held in the commons.

Financial aid staff will explain how to apply for aid using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, what happens after the FAFSA is sent in, how aid is calculated, and will answer questions regarding any aspect of financial aid available at CLC.

Guests do not need to be attending CLC to attend this session.

Emily receives small cities grant

EMILY -- The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development announced more than $21 million was awarded to 31 recipients -- including the city of Emily -- through the Small Cities Development Program.

Emily received $1.2 million to construct a municipal wastewater sewer collection and treatment facility and rehabilitate 24 homes occupied by low- to moderate-income households.

The grants are available to cities and townships with populations less than 50,000 and counties with populations less than 200,000. This year 85 eligible cities and counties submitted proposals for community development projects.

The program offers financial assistance for housing and public facility projects and comprehensive projects.
