Rookie pitcher helps Verndale softball team

VERNDALE -- The Verndale Pirates were too much for the Pillager Huskies as they were won 17-11 Tuesday in a Park Region Conference softball game.

Pirates Mandy Fink went 3 for 5 with five RBI and two home runs. Marie Kern also hit a home run and drove in three runs. Kellie Schmitz also contributed to the victory hitting 2-4 with two RBI.

Freshman Cherice Fuller got her first varsity win and struck out three of the Huskie's batters.

Pequot Lakes 17, Pine River-Backus 7

PEQUOT LAKES -- The Pequot Lakes Patriots crushed the Pine River-Backus Tigers 17-7 in a Park Region Conference softball game Tuesday.

Patriots pitcher Molly Landecker, went the whole game with out walking a batter and striking out two.

PIERZ -- The Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa Jaguars beat the Pierz Pioneers 17-2 Tuesday in non-conference softball.

Sheena Loidolt had the hot bat for the Pioneers going 3 for 3. Four other Pioneer players hit singles.

The Pioneers travel to Kimball on Monday at 4:30 p.m.

PERHAM--The Staples-Motley Cardinals split a doubleheader with the Perham Yellowjackets losing the first game 12-2 and winning the second game 8-4.

The Cardinals Sarah Berg was 1-for-2 with a solo homerun in the first game and teammate Sarah Bach also went 1-2.

S-M came back to pick up an 8-4 victory over the Yellowjackets in the second game.

The Cardinals Nicci Bender hit a two run triple in the fourth inning to tie the score 3-3 and S-M added five runs in the top of the sixth inning to seal the victory and improve to 1-1 overall.
