LONGVILLE -- The third annual Run Around Woman 30k and 5 miles run/walk will be held Saturday, May 6, in Longville.
Registration fee is $20. Preregistration is important to be guaranteed a T-shirt on race day.
The race committee anticipates there will be 250 racers this year. Last year the 207 racers were divided between 50 30k racers and 157 5 mile run/walkers.
The event will begin the night before the race at Salem Lutheran Church where youths of the church will host a spaghetti dinner from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Cost is $5. Runners can pick up their registration packets at the church that night.
Registration on race day will begin at 7:30 a.m. at the Longville Elementary School. The registration packets contain the participant's race number, coupons from Longville businesses, the T-shirt, information about Longville and the race information.
The 30k course around Woman Lake has been certified and sanctioned by the U.S. Association of Track and Field and the Minnesota chapter of the USATF.
At 9 a.m. the 30k race will begin on Highway 84 just south of St. Edward's Catholic Church. It will proceed 6 miles south on State Highway 84 to the intersection of County Highway 11 and continue west on Highway 11 about 6 miles to the intersection of County 11 and County 5. It will then go west and north on County Road 5 back to Longville. The race will end at the Longville Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce information building.
At about 9:15 a.m. the 5 mile run/walk will begin across from the Longville chamber information building on County Road 5. It will proceed 2 1/2 miles west on County Road 5. At the 2 1/2 mile mark, there is a turn-around station. Runners will cross the highway and proceed back to Longville. The race for the 5 mile run/walk will end at the Longville chamber information building.
Refreshments will be available for the racers at the finish tent. Area organizations hope to sell food for spectators in the parking lot of the Docksider. If warm weather prevails, a band will also entertain in the parking lot.
Aid stations will be located at miles 4, 7, 10, 12.5, 14.5, 16.5 and 18 for the 30k runners. There will be two aid stations for the participants in the 5 mile run/walk. Volunteer personnel, emergency communications and water will be available at each aid station.
There will be an Awards Ceremony at the tent by the finish line at 1 p.m. Awards will be presented to the top three males and females in each of the 12 divisions for the 30k and 5 mile run. Awards will also be presented to the top three males and females in each of the seven divisions for the 5 mile walk.
