The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) of Minnesota will hold free trainings for parents and professionals who work with children in need of residential treatment due to mental illness.
In separate trainings, parents and professionals will learn about Voluntary Placement Agreements. This agreement allows families to maintain custody of their child while obtaining necessary funding for the child's treatment. The trainings also include information on mental illness in children, out of home placement, advocating for your child, funding eligibility and more.
The next trainings will be 5:30-8 p.m. May 5 for parents and from 9 a.m. to noon May 6 for professionals at the Brainerd Public Library, 416 South Fifth St. Registration is requested. Crosslake U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to sponsor clean-up
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Crosslake Recreation Area Volunteer Spring Park Clean-Up will begin at 9 a.m. April 25. Volunteers of all ages are welcome to join in to help with picking up trash, raking and blowing leaves and readying the park for the May 1 summer season opening. The COE will provide weekend free camping along with available showers and lunch on Saturday and volunteers are asked to bring rakes and leaf blowers. American Legion Auxiliary luncheon
The American Legion Auxiliary will have a build your own sandwich luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the American Legion Post, 708 Front St. Cost is $5. Call 829-2249 for take-out orders.
Brainerd Lakes Area Audubon program

Lakes Area Caged Bird Club
The Lakes Area Caged Bird Club is having a pet bird fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 26 at the Brainerd Armory, 1115 Wright St. Admission is $3 for adults; children 12 and under are free.
There will be pet birds for sale along with cages, bird food, toys and accessories. This is an opportunity to talk to bird breeders.

Sheriff to speak on identity theft
Todd Dahl, Crow Wing County sheriff, will speak at the Park United Methodist Seniors meeting at noon on April 27. Dahl will speak on how to avoid becoming a victim of various identity theft and consumer fraud schemes plaguing our society, often targeting seniors.
