United Way announces new board members for 2002

The Crow Wing County United Way Board of Directors elected new members to its executive board for 2002.

New members are Mike Engler, Randy Hansen, Melody Banks and Joel Roff.

Engler, administrative management director at the Brainerd Regional Human Services Center, was elected president.

His current assignment to direct the marketing and public relations for the State Operated Services Northern Network includes state-operated programs at Ah-Gwah-Ching, Brainerd, Duluth and Fergus Falls.

He has been a volunteer with Rotary, Ducks Unlimited, YMCA, Chamber of Commerce, Junior Achievement and Pheasants Forever.

Hansen, a Brainerd School District employee since 1979, will serve the executive board as president-elect.

Hansen has been a teacher at Nisswa Elementary School, Mississippi Horizons and Brainerd High School. Currently he is the assistant principal at Washington Middle School.

He has volunteered as Camp Confidence Fishing Tournament chairman, Jump for Heart at Nisswa Elementary School and co-chaired the Nisswa Jaycees wrestling program. He has been the safe and drug free schools coordinator.

Banks, St. Joseph's Medical Center community relations coordinator, accepted the position of secretary. Banks has a background in graphic design, public relations and marketing.

She is a Blandin alumni and Sertoma member. She has served as Brainerd Lakes Area Chambers of Commerce Ambassadors chairwoman and as a Brainerd Chapter of the American Heart Association board member.

Roff, training manager at Potlatch where he has worked for 29 years, will serve the executive board as treasurer.

Before joining the United Way board, Roff was involved with the United Way as chairman for Potlatch's internal pledge drive and participated in several Chili Cook-offs.

He has helped people with basic financial planning through volunteer service with the Minnesota Extension Service, worked as part of the Parent Advisory Group at Washington Middle School, and been involved in several Brainerd and Nisswa Arbor Day celebrations.

Twyla Flaws, personnel manager at Clow Stamping, will serve the executive board as past president.

Flaws' volunteerism includes serving as a member and officer of the Central Lakes College General Advisory Board, Central Lakes College Foundation, Lakes Area Safety and Health Organization and the Brainerd Area Human Resources Association.
