WALKER -- Cass County Engineer David Enblom announced a procedure for those wanting to buy county mailbox posts to replace existing, non-conforming posts along county roads.
All requests for a post must be submitted in person or by mail with a $15 payment to the county highway department office in Walker, 8045 County Road 12, P.O. Box 579, Walker, MN 56484.
Applicants will receive in return a paid receipt from the Walker office.
They then can take the paid receipt to their closest county highway garage at the beginning or end of any workday to obtain their post. No money will be collected at any county garage.
County garages are in Pillager, Pine River, Hackensack, Longville, Walker, Remer and Cass Lake.
If arrangements to pick up a post at another time will be necessary, people can make those arrangements by calling the office in Walker at (218) 547-1211.
People who pay the additional cost to have the county install their post will receive that installation beginning 60 days after their notice was received.
Enblom said the department will schedule installations by areas, but expects them to take some time this summer, because Gopher State One-Call will have to locate power and telephone lines before posts can be placed.
Tuesday, the county board awarded a contract for aggregate stockpiling for county road projects to Anderson Contracting of Solway. Its $178,420.10 bid was the lowest of four received.
