Philosopher from India to conduct 'Inner-Serenity Camp'

Posted: Wednesday, April 17, 2002

Swami Chidatmananda of India, who presented several lectures and led meditation sessions in and around Brainerd last spring, will return to the area later this month for additional programs on his philosophy.

New this year is the Inner Serenity Camp that will run 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 4 at Grand View Lodge on Gull Lake, Nisswa.

Also, lectures are scheduled for 10 a.m. to noon and 7 to 8:30 p.m. April 25 at the Brainerd campus of Central Lakes College and 10 a.m. to noon May 1 at the Staples campus of CLC. Freewill offerings will be accepted to defray travel expenses on this stop of a national tour coordinated by Vardhini Mohan of Baxter.

Mohan and husband Raam Mohan are computer science and Internet instructors.

Who should attend? Vardhini Mohan said those who seek serenity would be likely attendees, as well as those wishing to manage stress and time, learn more about Indian philosophy, anyone open to discovering self from within, find inner peace or enjoy the benefits of meditation.

"This is not about religion," she said. "It is a philosophy."

The day camp will start with a lecture followed by group discussions and presentations and will include meditation sessions to calm the mind. She said a lunch will be provided from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., with the last part of the session to start with a management game followed by a serene walk by the lake.

"After the serene walk we will gather for a question and answer session," she said. "The camp will end with a beverage and dessert."

Swami Chidatmananda has conducted meditation sessions for various government organizations, management schools, politicians and executives. He focuses on stress management, mind management, self-management, ethics and morals. He is acclaimed for his ability to unfold complex concepts of Upanishads with ease and fluency in English and a few other Indian languages.

For information contact Vardhini Mohan at 828-8414. Deadline to register for the camp is Saturday. The $35 camp registration fee is payable to her at 1100 Forest Drive N., Baxter MN 56425.
