CAMP RIPLEY -- About 890 Minnesota Army National Guard members headquartered at Camp Ripley have been alerted for possible future federal active duty.
The troops are from the 434th Main Support Battalion. Specific units are Headquarters and Headquarters Company, Camp Ripley; A Company (supply and service), Camp Ripley; B Company (transportation), Austin and St. Cloud; C Company (heavy equipment maintenance), Camp Ripley; D Company (electronic maintenance) Duluth, Long Prairie and Camp Ripley; and E Company (medical), Cottage Grove.
The date and duty location of the future mobilizations have not yet been determined.
"This is a prudent measure to ensure that these soldiers are prepared for potential mobilization and are ready if they are called to active duty," Maj. Gen. Larry Shellito, the adjutant general of the Minnesota National Guard, said in a news release.
More than 1,800 Minnesota National Guard soldiers and airmen who are already on federal active duty.
