20 years ago (1988)

Rosalind Haapajoki, assistant vice president of First Bank Brainerd, has received the exceptional achievement award from First Bank System. Haapajoki was commended for her management of First Bank's Customer Service Department.

30 years ago (1978)

The Brainerd School Board approved a $182,600 contract last night for grading, filling and sewer system work at Don Adamson Park.

40 years ago (1968)

Some 84 investors have paid or pledged $26,100 in the current fundraising drive being carried out by Build Brainerd, Inc. The goal of the drive is to raise $50,000 through the sale of stocks and debentures.

60 years ago (1948)

The Brainerd Junior Chamber of Commerce has among its many other activities, the operation of a nine-hole golf course known as the Brainerd Golf Course. Membership fees are $10 plus a $5 fee for a stag party.

80 years ago (1928)

School Brainonian:

Spring, spring, beautiful spring,

An applicant for the post of mistress in a country school was asked:

"What is your position in regard to the whipping of children?"

She replied, "My usual position is on a chair with the child held firmly across my knees, face downward."
