Kenny Rogers to play at Mille Lacs casino in June

ONAMIA -- Kenny Rogers, whose 12 No. 1 albums and 20 No. 1 songs have cemented his legendary status over the past four decades, will perform at 6 and 9 p.m. June 3 at the Grand Casino Mille Lacs Events & Convention Center.

Born in Houston in 1938, Rogers began playing guitar and violin as a child. While still in high school, he played in local bands ranging from rockabilly to jazz groups. He continued displaying a wide range of musical tastes in the 1960s when he briefly joined the New Christy Minstrels, a popular folk group.

In the mid-1970s, Rogers went solo as a country-pop fusion artist and recorded a series of successful releases. The graying Texan reached the top of the charts in the '70s and '80s, with hits including "Lucille," "Coward of the County," "She Believes in Me," "Lady," "Islands in the Stream" (with Dolly Parton) and his signature song, "The Gambler."

Rogers has recorded more than 60 albums, received numerous awards and appeared in movies and TV, including his famous role as The Gambler.
