CLC's Reis hits sixth home run in nine games

Jon Reis hit a grand slam, his sixth home run in nine games, as the Central Lakes College Raiders baseball team swept Mesabi 14-11 and 6-2 in a doubleheader Sunday.

In Game 1, Reis went 2-for-3 with the grand slam and finished with five RBI. Justin Kolling was 2-for-3 with three RBI and Ara Anderson went 2-for-3 with a double.

Adam Hardy went 6 2/3 innings to get the victory.

"Adam would have pitched a complete game if not for a few errors, which made the game closer," Raiders coach Warren Mertens said.

In the second game, James Freese pitched a complete game, with only two walks, and Adam Hardy went 2-for-3.

"James got stronger later in the game," Mertens said.

The Raiders split a doubleheader against Itasca Saturday, winning the first game 8-1 before losing the second 12-9.

Jon Reis went 3-for-4 with four RBI, including a 3-run homer in the first inning of the first game, and added a solo shot in the second game.

Mike Baso hit a solo home run in the second game and went 2-for-2 with two RBI.

In the first game, Ben Jukich pitched a 2-hit complete game and Adam Hardy was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Phil Doll went 2-for-4 with an RBI in the second game.
