BAXTER -- Work on the foundations for the Highway and Business Highway 371 interchange south of Baxter began this week.
Paul Koenig, Minnesota Department of Transportation project supervisor, said crews will be driving the foundation pilings for the interchange bridge, which will carry traffic over Highway 371.
Since April 9 MnDOT crews have been clearing, grubbing and relocating utilities for the project before removal of topsoil and embankment construction.
Cathy Clark, MnDOT spokeswoman, said although no traffic interruptions are anticipated during the first week of the project, motorists should be alert and drive safely through the work zone. The $4.6 million project is being constructed by Mathiowetz Construction Company out of Sleepy Eye.
Work on the interchange is expected to be completed this fall.
